Let me give you my very subjective reasons why I abhor Plan 9 since the beginning:
1. I know of one guy from my previous university who co-developed it. Let's just say he's not very easy to like.
2. Lack of driver support, which is a problem for MINIX too, implying all these research OSses will only be useful for churning out research papers and bragging in geeks-populated cocktail parties.
3. Hyped. "We are the next generation of UNIX!" Yes, but is that enough reason to care?
